What's
happening?
Mid-July:
We've been collecting footage for the forthcoming Missoula Children's Theater DVD. This is the second consecutive year that the Lake Arts Council has brought them to our area, and it looks to be even bigger and more successful this time. LASMI founder William Runyon Jr. will be producing a DVD to sell to parents at the performances. Performances are to be held at the Camdenton School's Little Theater on July 18th at 3PM and 5PM. In addition to documenting the event for the LAC, and providing memorabila for the children and parents, this event is a primary fundraiser for LASMI.
Late Summer/Early Fall:
Local independent filmmakers Cody Mashek and William Runyon Jr. are hard at work on their latest piece of stylish cinema. The short, currently under the working title of A Strange Place, continues in the same styistic vein as their two previous works, the super short gross-out "rockfan", and award winning, neo-giallo-horror short "KEEPSAKE". Their artful use of high contrast lighting, stark black and white photography, and immersive, ambient scoring has made for compelling viewing, and it's likely that A Strange Place will be no exception.
Though neither previous work conformed entirely to genre standards A Strange Place is being touted as a further departure from what you might expect to see when you sit down to watch a short film. "It's basically an extended dream sequence" Runyon Jr. says, "it doesn't really follow any logical narrative progression. There's a thread -, a central character - so people shouldn't get too lost, but It's definitely much more experimental than our other work." In another departure from the previous films, which were both entirely scored by Mashek and Runyon Jr., the pair have enlisted the talents of local musicians Johnny and Katie Shelton and engineer Ryan Hall. Though the process has had a bit of a learning curve and some uncertain steps, Runyon Jr. is pleased with the results, "The music is amazing. We didn't know exactly what to expect, but it's absolutely better than we had imagined." Mashek and Runyon Jr. plan to release A Strange Place through their production company WERJ.COMA sometime within the next few months.
